A Greener Holiday

If you wish to have a car free holiday Bourne House is well placed. Guests can arrive by train on the heritage line from Brockenhurst which is on the London main line.

Once at Bourne House you can enjoy lovely walks from the house along the sea wall, marshes, ancient highway to Keyhaven and country lanes.

It is an easy walk to the large open air sea water swimming pool. If you are a sailor the marinas and sailing clubs and public slipway are a short walk. You can take a ferry to the Isle of Wight from the town quay and explore the island by bus.

There is a special hop on hop off bus which makes a circular tour of forest attractions such as Beaulieu. This bus can take bikes. The bus station is mid way up the High Street ,just 10 to 15 minutes walk away.

Bournemouth, Poole, Southampton, Winchester and Portsmouth are all accessible by train.

The town is very attractive with an excellent variety of shops and places to eat and drink. There are at least three pubs with excellent food within five minutes walk, and perhaps another twenty within 15 minutes! The fish and chip van calls round the corner at 7pm on Thursdays.

To walk in the New Forest you may wish to take the bus or train to Brokenhurst. There you can hire bikes for the forest trails. There are some bikes at Bourne, but they are only suitable for gentle rides around the lanes. You may borrow them but you ride at your own risk.

The garden though small is attractive and relaxing.

We have guests who have come without cars and who have booked again, and others who say they have hardly used their cars.
